An Odd Use Of Poison.
An Odd Use of Poison
Or An Unusual Insight Into Saving Ourselves
Do you ever find yourself so filled with resentment that it really messes with your day/your mind? I certainly do. That emotion gets my adrenaline running full speed ahead. Much to my embarrassment, this happens even if, and sometimes especially when, what's involved is something as simple someone taking "my" parking space. Recently, however, someone shared a quote with me that has really (I hope!) sunk in: Resenting someone is like swallowing a bottle of poison and then wondering why the other person doesn't die.
Think about it. It's our insides that are churning, our bodies being stressed by unnecessary adrenaline rushes, while the other person just goes about his or her own business, often completely unaware and certainly untouched.
I had a chance to test this the other day. I ended up spending literally almost five hours on the phone with the phone company, trying to get Dial Up going at our funky little summer trailer in the boonies. In the course of that torturous time I had people tell me things like, I kid you not, "I'm sorry ma'am, but that address doesn't exist." When I pointed out that the phone company had already been to this address and installed the very phone on which I was speaking, the answer was, "I'm sorry, ma'am, but I've even checked MapQuest"!
Prior to having heard the resentment-poison quote, I would have been beside myself, and my voice would probably have been injured by five hours of frustrated yelling. Holding on to the quote for dear life, however, I really was "beside" myself saying, "Is this poor phone company employee really worth drinking poison over?" And, believe it or not, I actually stayed relatively calm and adrenaline-free through the whole process. Even got extra help from some sympathetic workers who sensed I knew they were just human beings caught in an insane bureaucracy.
So the next time you head to a doctor's appointment where you know you're going to have to just wait, wait, wait, or are put on hold, forced to listen to some obnoxious ads, try asking yourself if that doctor or phone operator is really worth swallowing a bottle of poison.
P.S. Another prescription for waiting on hold or at a doctor's office, one which you probably already know, is to have a novel, some Sudoku puzzles, and/or a gardening or recipe book to drool over during the "stupid waste of time!" And wouldn't you know, just when I get really into what I'm enjoying, I'm told, "The doctor is ready for you now," or a voice on the phone suddenly says, "How may I help you today?" Instead of being pissed by how long I've had to wait, I'm amazed that I have to stop what I'm doing so soon!

Puzzled: Joke
Puzzled
On a shopping trip to the city a backwoods farmer bought a 24-piece jigsaw puzzle. He worked on it every night for two weeks. Finally, the puzzle was finished.
"Look what I've don, Jess," he said proudly to a visiting neighbor.
"That's surely somethin', Willard. How long did it take you?"
"Only two weeks."
"Never done a puzzle myself," Jess said. "Is two weeks fast?"
"Darn tootin'," Willard said. "Look at the box. It says, 'From two to four years."

My new fischer price lil pink camara! :)

This picture I took with my new lil pink camara that my mom got me for my Birthday! It is a fischer price toy camara because I broke two adult digitals! I needed the tough toy camara because I'm as accident prone as a four year old! LOL! My husband is tired of buying new digitals, so this was the perfect solution!
This picture of Hayden is the best one of the lot, because I figured out how to do the high resolution on this camara. The other pictures are not as high resolution.
Thanks Mom for my lil pink camara, I LOVE IT!

The Golden Child!
My sons Hayden and Blake always accuse me of treating Lil Paul like a golden child. They say he IS the Golden Child. I tell them that they were all Golden Children when they were younger, the youngest gets a little different treatment because they are younger. They say I spoil Lil Paul, but in my opinion they are all spoiled! LOL. Well, the funny thing is today, I'm riding along with Lil Paul in the car and he asks me, "Mom, can I still be the golden child when the baby comes along?." I just laughed my head off. I didn't know what to say at first, I mean, this was hillarious and he really thinks he IS the Golden Child! LOL! I told him he will always be my golden child and I will always have enough love for all my children because mommies have enough love that last forever for all their children. He says,"Okay, but I'm #1 Golden Child and the new baby can be #2 Golden Child!" LOL! I said, Okay it was a deal!
Funny what kids say!
Love,
Amy

Joke For Today 3-06-08: Rules for Life
Rules for Life
Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are;
- You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the Duct Tape.
- Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
- Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
- If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance.
- And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know when you might need them to empty your bedpan.

New Years Resolutions You Can Keep
Are you sick of making the same resolutions year after year that you never keep? Why not promise to do something you can actually accomplish? Here are some resolutions that you can use as a starting point:
1. I want to gain weight. Put on at least 30 pounds.
2. Stop exercising. Waste of time.
3. Read less.
4. Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.
5. Procrastinate more.
6. Drink. Drink some more.
7. Take up a new habit: smoking.
8. Spend at least $1000 a month on Ladies of the Night.
9. Spend more time at work.
10. Take a vacation to someplace important: like to see the largest ball of twine.
11. Stop bringing lunch from home: I should eat out more.
12. Quit giving money & time to charity.
14. Start being superstitious.
15. Have my car lowered and invest in a really loud stereo system. Get the windows tinted. Buy some fur for the dash.
16. Speak in a monotone voice and only use monosyllabic words.
17. Only wear jeans that are 2 sizes too small and use a chain or rope for a belt. Only wear white T-shirts with those fashionable yellow stains under the arms.
18. Personal goal: bring back disco.

Where God Ain't! Cute
I saw this on the web and thought it was cute.
Where God Ain't!
He was just a little boy, on a week's first day. He was wandering home from Sunday School, and dawdling on the way.
He scuffed his shoes into the grass; he found a caterpillar. He found a fluffy milkweed pod, and blew out all the "filler."
A bird's nest in a tree overhead, so wisely placed on high. Was just another wonder that caught his eager eye.
A neighbor watched his zig zag course, and hailed him from the lawn; Asked him where he'd been that day and what was going on.
"I've been to Bible School," he said and turned a piece of sod. He picked up a wiggly worm replying, "I've learned a lot of God."
"M'm very fine way," the neighbor said, "for a boy to spend his time." "If you'll tell me where God is, I'll give you a brand new dime."
Quick as a flash the answer came! Nor were his accents faint. "I'll give you a dollar, Mister, if you can tell me where God ain't."

A Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee
A Mayonnaise Jar and Two Cups of Coffee
A professor teaches his students a lesson about what's really important in life.
By Laura Bankston
Cups of Coffee"
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember this story about a mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee...
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor! next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.' The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, ' I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things-your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions-things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important.' So, pay attention to the things that are most important. Take care of your health--cook with your kids!-- spend time with those you love. There's always time to clean the house--it's a never ending job anyway :-). Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand. Wondering what the coffee represents? No matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple cups of coffee with a friend--or a soda if you're like me and don't drink coffee!! Please share this with someone you care about!

Today's Thoughts Feb.21 2008
Today it is raining and I'm feeling alittle down. It has been a fustrating week with everyone of the boys sick with a cough. Lil Paul has his asthma acting up again, he hasn't had that since he was an infant, but all the boys got sick with the flu and now that triggered it. He is doing better today. It is the first day he is not constantly hacking! He is on Albuterol and it seems to be finaly kicking in. The flu is hitting hard here in Sacramento, the flu alert website stated that our area is in the HIGH range. One school had 125 students out at the same time. Here is the website flu tracker
http://www.flufacts.com/know/default.aspx
Well, I'm ready for the sun and warm weather, I hate it when its boiling but at least the flu season will be over! And the boys can play outside more! That is always a good thing, to get them out of the house. Spring break is coming up quick here, I hope we have good weather, so they can be outside. They get so bored otherwise and start fighting with each other like crazy.
Oh, yeah, poor Blake got bit by a dog on Sunday. He has a punture wound in his calf. It is getting better, but it lookes really painful, it all black and blue around the bite mark. Blake always gets hurt, he is my boy that is more accidant prone! He takes after me unfortunetly.
Well, I've been boring enough, I'm signing off for now :)

Two Troublemakers
I thought this joke was funny and it reminded me of my boys!
Two Troublemakers
A couple had two little mischievous boys, ages 8 and 10. They were always getting into trouble, and their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons would get the blame. The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed and asked to see them individually. So, the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the afternoon. The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there with his mouth hanging open. The clergyman repeated the question. "Where is God?" Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. So, the clergyman raised his voice some more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "Where is God!?" The boy screamed and bolted from the room. He ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied: "We are in real BIG trouble this time! God is missing, and they think we did it!"

Cookies in Heaven?
Cookies in Heaven?
An elderly man lay dying in his bed. In death's agony, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies wafting up the stairs. He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled down the stairs. With labored breath, he leaned against the door-frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven: there, spread out upon waxed paper on the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table, landing on his knees in a rumpled posture. His parched lips parted: the wondrous taste of the cookie was already in his mouth, seemingly bringing him back to life. The aged and withered hand trembled on its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked with aspatula by his wife. "Stay out of those," she said, "they're for the funeral."

Make Your Own Cleaning Products!
With all the fancy new products on the market designedto make yourhousework easier comesa high price that dear Mother Earth has to pay. Most cleaning products contain toxic ingredients thatnot only pollute thesoil and underground streams when dumped outside; theyalso get into theair. The toxic fumes and residue left over fromhousehold cleaners can bedangerous or deadly to small children and pets. Hereare some greenalternatives to those toxic, not to mention expensive, household cleaningproducts, but be forewarned, the main ingredient isELBOW
GREASE!WINDOW AND GLASS CLEANER:The way grandma used to do it! Newspaper, vinegar and, of course, elbow grease!
ALL PURPOSE CLEANER:1/2 cup ammonia + 1/3 cup washing soda + 1 gallon warmwater You can usethis on just about everything and it deodorizes so getrid of the Lysol!
DISINFECTANT:Speaking of Lysol, green cleaning products, especiallyplain old soap, disinfect just fine. Store bought cans of disinfectantcontains many harmfulingredients and are much more expensive.
DESCALER:1 Part Vinegar to 1 Part Water Use in coffee machine, kettle, or iron.Pour into reservoir and let stand 30 minutes.
TUB AND TILE CLEANER:Baking soda and a damp cloth will clean your tub andtiles. You may need touse a brush to get into the grout (here's where theelbow grease comes in)but this will do the job without harming theenvironment.
TOILET BOWL CLEANER:Mix borax and lemon juice into a paste. Wet the sidesof the toilet bowl, rub and let stand for a few hours for heavy stains.Scrub off and flush!
DRAIN OPENER:If the plunger doesn't work try this: 250ml bakingsoda, 250ml salt, 125mlwhite vinegar and a pot of boiling water. Pour thesoda, salt and vinegardown the drain and leave for 15-20 minutes. Pour inthe boiling water.
GREEN CLEANING SUPPLY LIST:(You will find that these are FAR less expensive thanthe toxic name-brandvariety.)
VINEGAR:Helps to remove stains, wax buildup and mildew. Use toclean windows, fireplaces, grout, paintbrushes, glass and coffeepots.
PURE SOAP:Cleans almost anything.
BAKING SODA:Helps to clean and deodorize, can use as a scouringagent, polisher, stainremoval and fabric softener. Use to clean yourplastic, vinyl, carpet, silver, stainless steel, drains and works great in thefridge to eliminatefood odors.
BORAX:Helps to clean and deodorize. Use on wallpaper, painted walls and floors.Use it with your detergents to remove stains, andboost the cleaning power.
WASHING SODA:Helps to clean clothing and soften the water. Use itin a well-ventilatedarea, wear gloves. Washing soda is mildly toxic.I use washing soda in the tub to remove soap scum, works great!
AMMONIA:Strong Stuff! Use it to clean carpet, linoleum, mostappliances, copper andenamel. WARNING! Never mix ammonia with bleach; itwill create a poisonousgas. Always use in a well-ventilated area!

I hate painting!
I painted my boys room this morning and afternoon and I am so glad it is done! I hate doing painting but I had to get it done. I couldn't stand all the crayon, markers, pen, paint, and who knows what else marks that were on the wall. My boys are really destructive, I don't even have their beds on frames because they jump on the beds and break those! Now they broke the box spring on their bed! Geez! They eventually break everything, but I quess that is how boys are!
My hands are so sore and my neck and shoulders are killing me. I got it done in 4 hours, yeah, not the best job, but good enough! At least the walls are clean looking.
Now I gotta go make dinner.

Family Watchdog Website!
Every family should check this website regularly. It is a website that lets you know if convicted sex offenders are around your neighborhood.
http://www.familywatchdog.us/
I found out that within 1/2 mile of my sons' school, there is 9 registered offenders. That is too close and scary! I also found out that about one to two blocks away, we have a convicted rapist living so close to us! It is good to know that they have these websites to let us know.

Kids and Bambi!

I love this picture of the boys and the deer. My mom had this dear come around for awhile where she lives and this deer was soo sweet! He would come right up to you and loved to be petted and loved to eat apples! My mom named him Bambi.
Bambi especially loved lil paul because lil Paul just got done eating a peanut butter sandwhich and he had some on his shirt and the deer kept licking Lil Paul! LOL! LiL Paul kept saying, "This deer really likes me!" I wonder why
We had a great time this day up at my mom's place, you can see Lake Oroville in the background, what a beautiful scene!

My Boys.

This picture isn't really clear, but this was the boy on their first day of school on Sept. 2007.
They looked so cute in their uniforms and this was Lil Paul's first day of Kindergarten!
Time is going by sooo fast. I can't believe that I have to already register Hayden for Middle School so he can get into a good school for next year! I go down in February and he is invited to register for the School of Engineering and Sciences. I'm so proud of my GATE student. He is smart and he is such a sweet good boy. I hope he always stays this way. Blake is soo sweet too, he always thinks of me in small things and it touches my heart. Lil Paul is so full of character and life, he is hillarious at times and he can master the video games. He always tells me he loves me at least once a day, mostly more. I am truly blessed to have boys with such good hearts. I'm am just soo very blessed!
New Family Blog

I'm starting this blog, just in case my other one doesn't work out. I started a family blog on Moms Buzz, but I'm having difficulties, so I thought I would do a back up. For those of you who don't know me well, I'm a little obsessive compulsive! Once I start something like a family blog, I got to do all of it now! And if the other sight isn't working, well I move on! I drive myself crazy! Anyway, I'm Work at home of 3, so yes, maybe that's why my brain is a little rattled. My boys are ages 11, 9 and 6. I live in Sacrameno CA with my husband Paul and my 2 dogs, and 4 cats.
The first picture is of my husband Paul and our little dog Chica. The next one is Me, Blake and Lil Paul and last if of Cousine Gabriella, Lil Paul Blake and Hayden.
I will be posting some new pictures soon!
Love,
Amy
